ADF Organizes a Training Course on Transitional Justice for Tunisian Journalists.
As journalists will be closely covering the Tunisian national dialogue on transitional justice in the upcoming months, the workshop focused on transferring international experience in the Arab world in the fields of national reconciliation, transitional justice, and democratic transition, and the qualification of local specialized skills between the journalists.
The workshop was run by the Moroccan expert and trainer El Habib Belkoush, and inaugurated by Wafa Ben Haj Omar, who placed the session in the context of the objectives of the foundation for training the largest number of political and civil society leaders in order to achieve democratic transition in the Arab region. The ADF Secretary-General, Mr. Mohsen Marzouk spoke with a contextualizing approach in which he affirmed the major role which journalists play in the achievement of the democratic transition process in a region tainted with confusion, ambiguity, and mixed concepts. Mr. Marzouk indicated that it is necessary to control some of the concepts such as transitional justice in order to facilitate discussion between the actors and to enlighten public opinion.
This session was attended by 25 journalists representing the most important Tunisian newspapers, radio stations, and television channels. As for senior editors, an introductory lecture on the topic of transitional justice was allocated for Sunday 18 December in order to spread the benefit to the decision-makers in the media.
In partnership with a variety of regional and international institutions, ADF launched an open academy for transitional justice aiming to provide a mechanism capable of coordinating the efforts to support the capacities of various activists in this vital area.
